Diversity
Today is the International Day for Countering Hate Speech.
The International Day builds on the United Nations Strategy and Plan of Action on Hate Speech, which defines hate speech as any kind of communication in speech, writing or behaviour that attacks or uses pejorative or discriminatory language with reference to a person or a group on the basis of who they are.
The United Nations recognises that hate speech has the potential to incite violence and intolerance. The New South Wales Bar Association is committed to fostering fairness, equity and tolerance in a manner that reflects the social and cultural diversity within the legal profession and the communities we serve. More information about the Bar Association’s Diversity and Equity Policy is available here.
