New Counsel List - Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions

In July 2024, the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions (CDPP) commenced the establishment of a new Counsel List. The CDPP has also recently received additional dedicated funding for the stated purpose of engaging counsel with the most relevant skills and experience to assist the CDPP in managing its complex prosecutions. To align with the provision of this funding, the CDPP has recently published an updated Counsel Fee Range Guide. The CDPP frequently engages counsel to support the diverse and complex litigation work conducted by the CDPP and has recently established a dedicated Counsel Coordination team. The Counsel List will be comprised of barristers (both senior and junior) available to be briefed for work by the CDPP’s legal practice, will improve gender equality in CDPP briefing practices and diversify and expand the pool of counsel with the necessary experience and capability to undertake CDPP work.
