Potential Disruption to Courts and Tribunals Tomorrow
14/08/2024

The Department of Communities and Justice has provided the following details.
As you may be aware, Sheriff’s Officers that are members of the Public Service Association (PSA) are currently taking industrial action.
Tomorrow, Thursday 15 August 2024, the PSA is proposing a full-day strike across the state. This will impact court operations in both metro and regional locations.
This action applies to all PSA members employed by the NSW Sheriff’s Office, including but not limited to Sheriff’s Officers, Court Officers, and administrative employees in NSW Sheriff’s Office.
What steps are DCJ taking to address this?
The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) has lodged a dispute with the Industrial Relations Commission and the matter is currently being heard by the IRC. DCJ is also pursuing other avenues in an attempt to successfully resolve this dispute as quickly as possible.
How might this impact our courts and tribunals?
DCJ are working closely with the Sheriff to assess the potential impacts that this action may have on court and tribunal sittings to minimise disruptions. Many matters are unaffected, however matters and lists may be heard virtually and some matters may need to be adjourned. There may also be changes at short notice that will impact those who were scheduled to travel for court and tribunal business.
Where can I find further information?
Court and tribunal lists will be updated as soon as information is available. We encourage all court users to check these lists regularly as there may be changes at short notice.
A high-level notice will be published on all public-facing CTSD websites advising members of the public to check the relevant court/tribunal list for further details.
