At a special Bar Council meeting tonight, Phillip Boulten SC formally resigned as president of the New South Wales Bar Association.

The Bar Council then elected a new president, senior vice-president and junior vice-president. The Bar Council’s office bearers are now:

• President: Jane Needham SC
• Senior Vice President: Noel Hutley SC
• Junior Vice President: Arthur Moses SC
• Treasurer: Michael McHugh SC
• Secretary: Dominic Toomey

The Bar Council appointed by acclamation Phillip Boulten SC as a life member of the Bar Association for ‘exceptional service to the Bar Association and to the profession of the law’.

Pursuant to clause 12.5.1 of the Bar Association’s Constitution, Chrissa Loukas SC will fill the casual vacancy on the Bar Council which has arisen because of Boulten SC’s resignation.
