Can you offer pro bono advice to the Kingdom of Tonga?
04/07/2014

The Law Council’s Centre for Asia Pacific Pro Bono (CAPPB) has received a request for assistance to review legislation for the Tongan Public Relations Office on a pro bono basis. The Acting Commissioner, Aisea Taumoepeau, is seeking assistance as a matter of urgency (within the next 2 months) to enable resultant bills to go to the Legislative Assembly in August.
The legislation includes, among other things, the Commissioner for Public Relations Act 2001 and the Anti-Corruption Commissioner Act 2007.
The Centre for Asia Pacific Pro Bono is a clearinghouse that seeks to match requests from the Asia-Pacific region for international pro bono legal assistance with Australian legal practitioners and law practices. To date, the CAPPB has successfully matched more than 18 requests for assistance. Some of the projects require travel to the location, however projects such as this can be delivered remotely.
