Emergency detention orders - for imminent risk of serious offences

The New South Wales Government has introduced the Crimes (High Risk Offenders) Amendment Bill 2014, which provides (among other things) new provisions establishing "emergency detention orders" or EDOs.

"The emergency detention orders would be used where a change in an offender’s circumstances means there is an imminent risk of them committing a serious offence that can only be addressed by short term detention in custody," Attorney General Hazzard said.
