Trial of changes to civil transcript services in the Supreme Court

07/10/2014

The Department of Justice has advised that a new civil transcript service model is to be trialled in the Supreme Court of NSW from 20 October.

Under the new arrangements, parties in multi-day civil matters will be able to directly engage accredited contractors to provide a court reporting service. The department has advised that there will be no additional cost to parties under the new arrangements, and that it will maintain responsibility for ensuring that the quality and timeliness of the service continues to meet the requirements of the court. The maximum fee for transcript will continue to be set by legislation and the existing arrangements for fee waiver and postponement will continue to apply. Departmental staff will continue to provide reporting services for criminal and single day civil matters in the Supreme Court.

It is anticipated that the trial will run for six months and will be fully evaluated.
