Crisis Communication Skills
Common causes of complaints towards barristers include communication issues between barristers and clients. Barristers are known to be skilled communicators; however, clients still report unclear or unmet expectations, breakdowns in instruction, and unexplained advice. So, where is the disconnection?
In this session, Anna Fischer, Wellbeing Manager at The Law Society of NSW, will approach the common pitfalls of barrister-client communication from a scientific, trauma-informed perspective and will address the basics of emotional dysregulation, how trauma influences the barrister-client relationship, and how it restricts the brain's access to critical communicative functions. She will also present a clear set of communication techniques that can be used to promote a high standard of clarity and comprehension even when emotions and tensions are running high.
Please note: Only NSW barristers or members of the NSW Bar Association can register for CPDs or webinars.
