Responding to recommendations from the Coroner – a practical perspective from NSW Police Force and NSW Ministry of Health

Tuesday, 22 November 2022

What happens once a Coroner exercises power under s.82(1) of the Coroners Act 2009 to make a recommendation in relation to any matter connected to a death or suspected death? How are recommendations received and reviewed by the organisations identified in the recommendation? How can Counsel Assisting best assist the Court by drafting recommendations that will most likely lead to material change in practice? How can Counsel for a sufficient interest party best advocate that no recommendation is necessary or that any recommendation as is necessary is also drafted in a way that makes practical sense to the organisation?

Natalie Marsic, General Counsel, Office of the General Counsel, NSW Police Force, and Deanne Tadros, Director, Professional Capability and Legal Operations, NSW Ministry of Health will join chair Donna Ward SC for this practical and informative conversation.
