Today: Victim Representation in International Tribunals 5.15pm
24/06/2021

Webinar - Thursday 24 June 2021
The New South Wales Bar Association’s Human Rights Committee is pleased to present a webinar on Victim Representation in International Tribunals on Thursday 24 June, at 5.15 pm, chaired by Justice Loukas-Karlsson with three barristers speaking from Geneva, London and Sydney.
The Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (“ICC”), of which Australia is a party, provides victims of serious international crimes with broad rights to participation in proceedings before, during and after a trial. These rights include the right to communicate with the Court before an investigation is initiated by the Office of the Prosecutor, to make submissions on the parameters of the investigation and standing to participate through a legal representative during trials. As a result, victim participation has become an increasingly accepted component of tribunals for serious international crimes and human rights violations and has the ability to influence the outcome of proceedings.
Chair - Justice Chrissa Loukas-Karlsson of the Supreme Court of the Australian Capital Territory, and counsel before the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague between 2003 to 2006.
