Tonight: Local Court criminal practice: Tips from the Bench

The New Barristers Committee are pleased to present the second instalment in the three-part series on Local Court practice tonight 7 July 2022 at 5.15 pm. Magistrate James Gibson, Magistrate Peter Thompson and Magistrate Joy Boulos will discuss the following topics with a view to providing the junior Bar with invaluable insights from the Bench:

• Defended hearings
• Pitching the sentence
• Seeking a non-conviction
• General tips for keeping the bench happy
• Do’s and don’ts on PCA pleas (particularly in more serious examples e.g., second and third offences, high range, proper application of the guideline judgment)
• Bail applications in the Local Court
• Use of authorities and written submissions

Barristers over seven years are most welcome to attend.
