Evaluation of young adult conferencing pilot programme: new report out today

The Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research has released its latest�report, An Evaluation of the NSW Community Conferencing For Young Adults Pilot Program.� The pilot programme�enables young�offenders�"to apologise to the victim, explain the reasons for his/her offence(s) and make some form of restitution to the victim and/or the community".
The bureau found that�ninety-one per cent of victims said they were satisfied with the intervention plan and that the outcome was fair to them. However, the research shows no effect on the numbers sent to prison and an indeterminate effect on recidivisim.
