18/09/2007

The Bureau of Crime Statistics and Researchyesterday released anew report, which quantifies one aspect of the cost to the community of alcohol related violence. The report has received extensive coverage in the Sydney metropolitan media.

Among the report's findings: the combined total alcohol-related activity salary costs for the time spent by NSW Police in local area commands and the special purpose VIKINGS Unit was estimated to be just under $50 million in 2005. This figure is equivalent to the combined annual salaries of around 1,000 full-time constables in NSW.
