Bar Association supports improvements to jury system

The president of the New South Wales Bar Association, Anna Katzmann SC, has welcomed todayâs report by the Law Reform Commission, especially the recommendations addressing poor pay and conditions for jurors. Commenting on the report, Jury Selection, Ms Katzmann said: âGovernments must ensure that people do not suffer serious hardship when doing jury duty. The Bar Association is concerned that if the present situation is allowed to continue, long criminal trials will be endangered and juries will become increasingly unrepresentative of the general community.â View the media release�> 8 January 2008
