Position vacant: chief executive officer, Legal Aid Commission

The Legal Aid Commission is a statutory body at the forefront of the provision of legal aid and other legal services including community education programs to the disadvantaged members of our community.�

The board of the commission determines its policies and strategic direction.�The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day management of the commission, make determinations in relation to major applications for legal aid and provide policy advice to the attorney general and to the commission.

Selection criteria for the CEO:

  • Commitment to improving the delivery of legal services to the community with sound business and legal practice experience�
  • A strong understanding of the justice system with extensive experience at senior executive level
  • Outstanding leadership and people management skills
  • Understanding of financial, HR, management and technology issues
  • Demonstrated ability to apply financial management skills to meet fiscal responsibilities and ensure the effective utilisation of resources
  • Proven capacity and performance in leading organisational and cultural change to achieve effective service delivery outcomes
  • Ability to work with a team of dedicated staff with a strong focus on relationship management with key stakeholders, high level strategic planning and superior communication skills.

An attractive remuneration package and contract for up to�five years will be negotiated.
