06/03/2008

The president of the Bar Association, Anna Katzmann SC, went on the Alan Jones Show this morning to explain to listeners the object of amendments tothe Barristers Rules. The president told the estimated audience of 182,000 that the amendmentslimit the barrister's capacity to ask questions with the intent of humiliating or intimidating awitness.
"The barrister [has an obligation] to ask questions in a responsible manner. Because this is all about the responsible use of privilege in the court room.
"A decent and competent barrister can ask questions in a way which are not belittling, insulting or otherwise inappropriate", said Ms Katzmann.
