Local Court sittings during the Local Court Annual Conference

The Local Court has released the special sitting arrangements during the Local Court Annual Conference, to be held on Wednesday, 2 July to Friday, 4 July 2008. The following sitting arrangements will apply:
Metropolitan area
Two acting magistrates will be rostered at Burwood Local Court to determine bail for persons who remain in custody in the metropolitan area and to consider any urgent applications for Apprehended Violence Orders that are lodged state-wide.
Applications for urgent Apprehended Violence Orders are to be lodged at the nearest Local Court and transmitted to Burwood by court staff for determination by a magistrate during court sitting hours. Parties are to be advised not to attend the Burwood Registry.
Children's Court
An acting magistrate with experience in the operation of the children's court will be rostered at Parramatta Children's Court to determine bail for any juveniles who remain in custody in the metropolitan area and determine any urgent Care and Protection Order applications that are lodged state-wide.
Regional areas
Registrars of the court will conduct bail hearings when required at regional locations. Urgent Apprehended Violence Order applications are to be referred to the duty magistrate at Burwood.
Mental Health inquiries
Inquiries conducted by acting magistrates will take place as per normal arrangements. At all other locations where the resident Magistrate undertakes these inquiries local arrangements are to be put in place in consultation with other relevant agencies to facilitate inquiries being undertaken on another suitable date.
