The House of Lords has begun a legislative spring clean by removing "meaningless and defunct laws" from the statute book. Leading the debate Lord Bach said:"The removal of these redundant and sometimes absurd pieces of legislation from the statute book help to simplify and modernise the law. For example they include ... 12 obsolete Acts relating to the affairs of the East India Company in the period 1796 to 1832." Learn more>
