Room to grow in Lockhart Chambers

05/04/2008

In 2005 the board of Counsel's Chambers Limited (CCL) reviewed its use of floorspace in Lockhart Chambers. Faced with high demand from its shareholders' floors for additional space to establish complementary annexes, the CCL board adopted a policy whereby its shareholder floors would be offered, as a priority over all other uses, space in Lockhart chambers to establish floor annexes.

This arrangement has greatly benefited the floors that have taken advantage of this opportunity. The lower ground floor is now the only remaining space available for lease in Lockhart Chambers. The Council of Law Reporting vacated the premises late last year and since that time it has been used as overflow mediation rooms to compliment the National Dispute Centre rooms, now located on 1st Floor Selborne Chambers.

CCL has now developed a design that would provide for this floor to be refurbished to accommodate up to 11 chambers. The plans also incorporate the installation of a stairclimber, which will provide wheelchair and trolley access from Macquarie Street.

If your chambers are interested in making an application for consideration by the CCL Board to lease the whole of this floor or to license individual chambers please contact Debbie George via e-mail: dgeorge@counselschambers.com.au or ph: (02) 9231 3644.

Details regarding the terms of lease/license will be made available on application.
