NSW Government to tighten restrictions on vexatious litigants

12/05/2008

Courts will be asked to consider protocols to refer vexatious litigants to mental health treatment, under a proposal announced by Attorney General John Hatzistergos on Sunday, 11 May 2008. The NSW Government says it willdraft legislationto tighten restrictions on unmeritorious law suits.

"If people abuse the system we need to make it easier for judges to banish them from courtrooms, freeing up the justice system and protecting the good citizens of this state", Mr Hatzistergos said.

The attorney general said an exposure draft of the legislation will be circulated to heads of the courts and the legal profession for their comments.
