Papers to note: Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research report on domestic violence
21/05/2008

Areport by the Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR) has found that a study group of victims of domestic violence are very satisfied with the response they received from police and would report a similar incident in the future. An Evaluation of the NSW Domestic Violence Intervention Court Model, studied cases in Campbelltown, Macquarie Fields and Wagga Wagga in 2005.
Attorney General Hatzistergos issued a media release welcoming the report.
âThis shows that not only are we effectively prosecuting offenders, but we are winning the confidence of victims to make complaints to the police,â Mr Hatzistergos said.
âThe report shows that 100 per cent of victims were satisfied with the level of support they received from victimsâ support services.â
âThe model has also been effective in increasing the number of offenders charged by police following a complaint. For example, charges increased by 16.4 per cent in Campbelltown and 11.4 per cent in Macquarie Fields.â
