National Archives set to promote 9 July as Constitution Day
08/07/2008

The National Archives of Australia has designated 9 July as 'Constitution Day' to encourageAustrlians to reflect on and celebrate the meaning and continuing importance of the Constitution. It was on that day in 1900 that Queen Victoria signed her assent to the Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act, signifying the creation of the nation of Australia.
The National Archives has created a web page to mark the occasion, with links to their wonderful 'Documenting Democracy' web site, which has reproductions of letters patent, proclamations and Acts of parliament that helped to shape the rule of law in Australia.
