David Re appointed to the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina

David Re, of Frederick Jordan Chambers, has been appointed to the position of international judge on the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, that country's highest trial and appellate court.� Mr Re has been appointed to the war crimes section (chamber) of the court's trial division.

The war crimes section tries serious crimes committed in the war in Bosnia such as genocide, extermination, murder, torture, and breaches of the Geneva Conventions and the laws and customs of war.

The court has 43 local and 15 international judges.� At least one international judge sits on each panel of three judges that hears war crimes cases. There are no juries.

Prior to his appointment, Mr Re worked as a senior trial attorney at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY).� The last case he prosecuted was against the former prime minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, and two co-accused, for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
