Australia ratifies the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Last night, in New York, Australia ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. âRatifying the convention clearly demonstrates the Rudd Governmentâs international commitment to ensuring people with disability are treated equally and not as second-class citizens,â Attorney-General Robert McClelland said. The federal government has also announced that it will�amend the Disability Discrimination Act in the Spring sittings of parliament to implement recommendations made by the Productivity Commission in its 2004 review of the Act. Learn more >
