Attorney General John Hatzistergos has announcedplans for anew, simpler regime governing public and media access to court documents. The NSW Government will adopt the recommendations made by the Attorney General's Department in its Report on Access to Court Information.

"Documents classified as Open Access will be available to journalists and the public, and may include police fact sheets, evidence transcripts, affidavits and pleadings", the attorney said in his media release. "Those classified Restricted, such as medical and psychiatric reports, will only be available if the court grants leave or the statutory provision confers a right of access".
