Supreme Court issues notice: 'No Ring-ins'

14/08/2008

In response to a number of paralegals and law clerks appearing in registrars' lists, often insufficiently instructed, the Supreme Court Registry has felt itnecessary to issue a gentle reminder to legal practitioners about appearances:

If a solicitor is carrying on proceedings for a party under UCPR 7.1, the Supreme Court expects that, in the ordinary course, a legal practitioner will appear when the proceedings are listed before the court. This includes when the proceedings are listed before a registrar. The legal practitioner is expected to have a thorough knowledge of the proceedings and to be able to assist the court as required.
