Papers to note: Homicide in Australia

The International Homicide Conference begins tomorrow on the Gold Coast. Ahead of the conference, the Australian Institute of Criminology has released its 2006-2007 annual report for the National Homicide Monitoring Program. The report shows, among other things, that:
- the rate for 2006â07 was 1.2 per 100,000, amongst the lowest for a century;
- in 2006â07, there were 260 homicide incidents, involving 266�victims and 296 offenders. Of the victims, 185 were male and 81 were female;
- twenty-seven children under the age of 15 years were killed in�2006â07, the overwhelming majority by a parent (84%).
